Engaged On TV

In last month's e-newsletter, Something New, we asked you to send us your engagement stories. Karyn Alexander, who's getting married in Edinburgh later this year, decided that rather than writing all about her proposal by boyfriend Nathan, she would put a video of her story onto YouTube. Below you'll find the link where you'll be able to enjoy a truly original method of popping the question, with a little background on their story too.

Nathan and Karyn met on a night out in Leeds in June 2006. "Nathan's a paramedic from Australia, and was over in the UK working to see what life's like on the other side of the world," Karyn says. The bride-to-be herself is from Edinburgh, but had been living in Leeds for a year at the time. Three weeks later, Nathan "started the song thing!" as Karyn puts it. In other words, he asked her out at a barbecue at his house – by re-writing the lyrics to 'Valerie' by The Zutons and serenading her! "Unfortunately due to Visa restrictions, Nathan could only work in the UK for a year," Karyn says, "but that gave him time to arrange 'A Decent Proposal'. He always said it wasn't worth doing if it didn't make the news!" she laughs. Well, it made the news and the local paper, so mission was definitely accomplished.
Nathan's now working in Dubai until he can come back to the country on a Fiancé visa – hopefully he won't have to wait too long as the wedding is in September! But as Karyn says, "It's going to be hard being apart for so long, but at the end of the day, what's a few months out of the rest of our lives?"
The SWD team wishes Nathan and Karyn the best of luck with their wedding plans.
We can't get enough of these engagement stories, so if you want to share, get in touch on editorial@scottishweddingdirectory.co.uk to email the editor directly.
