My Engagement Story
My engagement story, by Beverley Deer
"For Valentines Day, my boyfriend sent flowers to my work. There was a card with smaller cards inside, telling me I was in for a big surprise at the weekend.
He invited me over for dinner on the Friday night, and when I got to his flat it was all lit up with candles and presents. The meal consisted of fillet of steak cut into love hearts! For dessert we had chocolate fondue with loveheart marshmallows and fruit, all washed down with Champagne.
He didn't tell me where we were going for lunch on the Saturday – he drove us to the gorgeous Dakota Hotel in South Queensferry for our Valentines weekend. When we arrived he secretly spoke to the manager and arranged a special table in the private dining area for our evening meal.
Later in the evening, we came down for dinner and were seated by our secluded romantic table – I had a feeling he had organised it but he insisted he hadn't! The staff and the food in the restaurant were fantastic, I would certainly recommend this hotel!
After a bottle of wine, a meal (and cocktails!), John turned to me very nervously and said, 'I've organised all of this and I have something to say...' I started to cry and as he got down on one knee he brought out a box with a gorgeous ring and asked if I would marry him. He started to cry and as all the waiters and diners watched to see what was happening, I said 'yes', with both of us in tears! The waiters brought in glasses of Champagne and congratulated us!
Later I found out about John's other plans – plan B was to ask the chef to write 'Will you marry me?' in chocolate on the dessert plate, but as the restaurant and hotel were fully booked for the night, the chef was going to be too busy. His third idea was to place lots of tealights in the hotel room, shaped into the words 'Will you marry me?'. But he was scared in case he started a fire! So he stuck to plan A, and it was so romantic. I can't believe he was able to keep it so secret!
I will be buying your magazine to get started on planning our wedding, which is going to be in Mauritius in 2010. Now we just need to start saving!" |
