Historic Scotland

Make Your Wedding Go Down In History!
Four of the east of Scotland's best-loved historic sites are joining the list of leading venues available for weddings! Linlithgow Palace in West Lothian, where Mary Queen of Scots was born in 1542, and Craigmillar Castle in south east Edinburgh - believed to be where the murder of Mary's second husband was planned - join Aberdour Castle in Fife and Dirleton Castle in East Lothian as the latest historic venues available to brides and grooms. All of the venues are licensed for religious marriage ceremonies and Linlithgow and Aberdour can also host civil ceremonies. Dirleton also has a small chapel. While marquees for up to 100 will be erected at Aberdour and Dirleton castles, Linlithgow Palace and Craigmillar both have internal covered areas still capable of hosting events. To request further information on any of these venues, please call 0131 668 8958 or email hs.functions@scotland.gsi.gov.uk.

Lennoxlove

Lennoxlove House Re-opens for Weddings in Summer 2007
Lennoxlove House in Haddington, East Lothian is currently closed for major restoration work. However, you can view art from the house when you visit Edinburgh auctioneers Lyon & Turnbull during August, where you can also meet with Suzanne Martin from Lennoxlove to discuss bookings and wedding requirements upon the venue's re-opening in July 2007. Suzanne will be based at Lyon & Turnbull until 18 August to show you set-ups, previous wedding photographs and films, and will be happy to discuss suppliers, cakes and flowers too. Lyon & Turnbull is located at 33 Broughton Place, Edinburgh, EH1 3RR. Tel: 0131 557 8844.
For further information on Lennoxlove House, visit www.lennoxlove.com/corporate/contact.asp or call 01620 823 720.

SWD Tip for Late Bookings!
Don't just assume that all the popular wedding venues are booked for years to come. While this can often be the case, cancellations do occur and you may be lucky enough to find your dream venue just months before your big day. Also, remember that many venues will have more dates available for autumn and winter weddings and there may be great opportunities if you can hold your wedding mid-week. So, don't be shy about calling your favourite venue and asking - you may be pleasantly surprised!
