STEP 1: Find your style
Make-up is a great failsafe method of ensuring that any annoying dark circles or last-minute blemishes disappear without a trace. If you’re thinking of trying a new or slightly more fashion-inspired look for your big day then use the time in the run up to seek inspiration by flicking through magazines or having a look online.
STEP 2: Preparation, preparation, preparation
Give Mother Nature a helping hand by taking extra special care of yourself in the weeks before. Get your hair coloured a couple of weeks before. This should give you some time to get a few deep heat treatments on to restore the shine. It is useful to have a skincare routine in place from around eight weeks before.
STEP 3: Choose the right people
The morning of your wedding can be an emotional, excitable and sometimes slightly frantic experience, so when choosing your hairdresser and make-up artist try to pick someone who you think you’d be comfortable with on the day and who will keep calm under pressure. Of course, it’s also vitally important to select people who are experienced in their field and whose work is well-regarded.
STEP 4: Test and try before you buy
Word of mouth is a great way of finding the perfect people to help you to look your best on the day. Online bridal forums (such as ours) are a great place to share information on suppliers and you should, of course, try to have a trial at least a month ahead of the big day to try out your wedding day look.
STEP 5: Leave enough time
A fun and stress-free morning is easily achieved, however, as long as you do a little bit of planning ahead of time. This is particularly important if you’re getting ready with lots of bridesmaids, a flower girl or two and your mum! Ask at your trial how long the make-up artist/hairdresser will need for each person and ask them to get there with time to spare.
STEP 6: Keep on top of touch ups
It is a good idea to speak to your make-up artist about the products she is using on your skin. You may like to buy the lipstick/gloss to do some touch ups on the night (which, ideally, one of your bridesmaids could look after for you). It is also increasingly popular for brides to ask their hairdresser and make-up artist to drop into the venue before the evening reception starts in order to give their look a quick freshen up. This means that you’ll evening guests will get the full effect of your transformation too!
