Cheer up your venue with these fun decoration ideas

Keep your budget on track but create a definitive look for your day by taking the time to plan how you're going to decorate your venue. We've come up with some unusual but simple (and often budget friendly) ways to wow your guests when sprucing up your function space.

Stained glass
If you're going for a minimalist approach to room décor then a splash of colour might be just what you need to lift the look. Coloured glasses are an easy and practical way to inject a vibrancy to your day. Although if you were thinking of glasses of a different type, we did hear of one couple who handed 3D glasses to their guests – it certainly ticks the 'something different' box...

Snap happy

Scan in photos of you and your groom through the years (the funnier the better), as well as pics of your family members and close friends. Then pop them up all over the venue – it will make people laugh and it is a chance to include portraits of any close relatives who have passed on too. Depending on the venue, you might need to pin them to exhibition boards rather than directly onto the walls.

Paper moon
Having paper lanterns at your venue is a hot new trend and one which you want to catch onto now – before everyone else does! Buy a good number in your chosen colour scheme and attach them to the ceiling above the dancefloor, where they will remain all night. It's such a simple idea and the effect is stunning in photos too!

Time for tea
You can't beat tea lights in translucent holders for creating a cosy ambience. Line any walkways and place them around your centrepieces – in fact use them pretty much anywhere you can (without creating a fire hazard) to create a twinkling effect. And remember to check the burn time on the candles, as you don't want to have to relight them during the evening!

Go for glitter

Transport everyone back to the sparkling glamorous 80s with a huge glitterball that makes the room spin for all the right reasons. Take inspiration from the O2 ABC in Glasgow, which has one (if not the) biggest glitterballs in the country and try and get the biggest one you can find!
