HONEYMOONS...

Mountain retreat

Mountains and snow or culture and food? Europe can cater for all romantic honeymoon tastes! Whether you are an active couple who enjoy mountains and snow or whether you both prefer culture, wine and food, Europe can offer something for everyone.

WORLD LOCATION: Tuscany lies on the northwest coast of Italy, and is the fifth largest region in the country, taking in Florence and Pisa.

DISTANCE FROM UK: Tuscany's main airport is Pisa, to where there are regular flights from Glasgow. Flights take around three hours, depending on stopovers.

WHY CHOOSE TUSCANY? There are coastal resorts with sandy beaches on the west, while inland the expanse of countryside gives way to mediaeval towns and the main city of the region, Florence. Tuscany is famous for the quality of its food and the Chianti hills, where the famous grapes are grown. And of course there is Pisa, with its world-famous leaning tower. Check out the prehistoric thermal pools which have given way to indulgent spas.

The Leaning Tower of PisaNEED TO KNOW: Driving is certainly an option if you want to explore the famous Chianti hills or the small towns and villages that dot the countryside. Although there are tolls on some of the major roads, the road network is very well maintained. For major cities, it is advisable to use public transport. Bus links are superb and very efficient, as is the train network, which extends to all major cities and towns. Mountains and snow or culture and food, the choice is yours.

HOW TO GET THERE: Flights depart from Glasgow and Edinburgh to Pisa and Florence airports, some with connections in Gatwick or Stansted airports. Airlines include British Airways, Ryanair and Alitalia (from London).
