HONEYMOONS...

world location: Thailand, The Maldives, Sri Lanka

distance from the UK: Flights take about 12 hours

why choose the indian ocean? Since the devastation of the tsunami in December 2004 the Indian Ocean has made great strides to be back in business, with many resorts receiving a new lease of life courtesy of huge investment and refurbishment. As well as benefiting from redevelopment, these Indian Ocean destinations also still offer the kind of tropical paradises they became famous for in the first place. (However, the Indian Ocean destinations are still the perfect tropical paradises they've become famous for.) Plus, today beaches are cleaner and waters are clearer.

ThailandThailand For many reasons Thailand has been named the Land of Smiles, predominantly because this exotic destination is unbelievably welcoming and has a long-standing popularity with honeymooners. Crisp white beaches are engulfed by turquoise blue seas. Those couples who are keen for a good nightlife will enjoy Phuket and Pattaya, whereas those who are eager for a quieter time can enjoy the peaceful islands of Koh Samui and Ko Phi-Phi - made famous by Leonardo Di Caprio's film The Beach. We highly recommend Koh Samui, which was previously a favourite with backpackers but has recently gone upmarket with its beautiful new resorts.
