HONEYMOONS...
spacer

So you’ve exchanged vows, enjoyed the party and waved off your guests. Now you’re looking forward to a blissful honeymoon. But before you get whisked away you need a lovely hotel to spend your first night in. Here we have a few suggestions...

Edinburgh

Dunstane House Hotel
Situated in Edinburgh’s west end, this four-star hotel has a countryside vibe but it’s right in the heart of the city. You will get a sense of timelessness when you step through the door here and there is lots of historical background to the building itself. Built in 1852, it was designed by architect William Playfair and was once home to the Ross family who made the famous Edinburgh Castle Rock. Thanks to the grandeur of its furnishings, including the cosy original fireplaces and stained-glass windows, it feels more like a castle than a hotel, although each of the 16 bedrooms comes complete with free wireless broadband to remind you what century you’re in. The room rates offer excellent value for money considering the four-star rating, ornate decor and luxurious ambience, and if you’re lucky you may even save some honeymoon spending money with their last-minute offers. Make sure you visit the hotel’s award-winning Skerries Restaurant, which specialises in seafood but nevertheless does a great job of catering for all palates. You can get a taste of the local culture in their well-stocked whisky bar, oh and every deluxe room has the essential first night accessory, the four poster bed.

Inverness

Rocpool Reserve
If you are one of those people who thinks all the best hotels are in the big cities, the small but perfectly formed Rocpool Reserve will make you think again. The recent winner of the Scottish Hotels Reviews award for best Scottish Boutique Hotel (and runner up in the ‘Sexiest Hotel’ category), it offers sophisticated wining and dining in modern luxurious surroundings. Described as a hideaway in the centre of the city, Inverness’s first boutique hotel is just ten miles from Inverness Airport. Your first night here will be accompanied not only by chilled Bollinger and strawberries, by also by little luxuries including plasma TVs, DVD players, Egyptian linens, king-size beds and dimmed lighting. Just as it should be, you won’t want to leave your room at all – especially when you see the spa-like bathrooms boasting rain showers and deep baths as well as the obligatory fluffy towels. If you do venture outwith your four elegantly decorated walls it will probably be for cocktail hour in the bar or perhaps to enjoy dinner on your balcony, from where you can take in fantastic views over the river as you hold hands and contemplate your newly acquired marital bliss together.www.rocpool.com

Glasgow

Saint Jude’s Hotel-Restaurant-Bar
This is a contemporary converted townhouse in Glasgow city centre. The focal point to the main building is the glass dome on the roof which lights up the central staircase. As well as five bedrooms they have a gorgeous penthouse suite that’s perfect for couples embarking on their honeymoon journey. As well as having a bathroom for each of you, plus its own lounge area and a kitchenette ensuring you don’t need to venture out, the suite’s piece de resistance has to be the huge stainless steel bath in the en suite. And of course it has a king size bed for you to enjoy your Champagne and strawberries on, and all the entertainment facilities you could possibly need. If the penthouse suite is already taken, try Saint Jude’s luxury serviced apartments instead.www.saintjudes.com

London

Blakes Hotel
Blakes London frequently wins awards in categories that contain words like ‘sexy’, ‘hip’ and ‘stylish’; it seems there’s not much to beat it if you’re after sheer unadulterated luxury. As you’d expect from a true boutique hotel, each room has been individually created, by the internationally renowned ‘design guru’ Anouska Hempel no less. She’s even taken the trouble to design every dish on the restaurant’s menu. Check out the romantic Corfu Suite for some minimalist yet superb styling; with a huge four-poster bed and the whole place decked out in pure brilliant white, when you wake up there you’ll probably think you’re still dreaming. If all the white on white gets too much for you, simply wander outside to your personal pretty green courtyard. This is a well-known hangout for London’s film stars, musicians and of course top designers so you can do a spot of celeb-watching should you ever get bored of staring into each other’s eyes.www.blakeshotels.com
